Beaded Bracelet Workshop - Free!

Make a holiday gift for a friend or yourself. On Tuesday, December 8 at 6:30 pm, Liz Blanchette will show us how to make beautiful designs in beaded bracelets using safety pins! Space is limited, so please call the library (413-527-9480) to register. Ages 10 through adult are welcome.

A supply list which includes the kind, amount and location where the safety pins and beads may be purchased is available at the library.

If you have had your Mass. License expire lately, you know that the Registry of Motor Vehicles will no longer send out reminders for you to renew and sometimes that can be very inconvenient. However, there is a new service on the https://secure.rmv.state.ma.us/RMVReminder/intro.aspx website that will help you register with a secure website that will send either an email, text message or phone call at no cost to you. Check it out.

Write Out Loud @ The Library?? Yes! The Edwards Library in Southampton wants you to come write, share and explore the world of words (WOW) with your friends. For grades 5-7, and starting Thursday, September 17 at 6:30 pm, Madeline Hunter will help you tap into your yet undiscovered creative talent. Poetry, memoirs and short stories will be explored every week in this 6-week workshop.

It's Summer Reading Club time at the Edwards Library and this year's theme is Starship Adventure at Your Library! where you can find adventures of all kinds here all summer long.

Sign-up starts Tuesday, June 30. Join us for 6 weeks of having fun, and exercising your 'reading muscles' with a chance to win great prizes, including one of two mp3 players and life-sized Star Wars figures, C3PO or R2D2!

We also have a new Wii, and you can sign up to play any Friday. Call 413-527-9480 for more information.

Roger Tincknell and Davis Bates will present a "Constellation of Stories and Songs" on Friday, Jul 10 at 1:30 pm. The Summer Reading Club final party will be "Beautiful Future, Children's Multicultural Music Program" with Kate O'Connor on Tuesday, August 4 at 1:00 pm.

Through the generous donation of a patron, the library now has a Wii Game system! We will have a demonstration on Tuesday May 26 from 7-8 pm. All ages are welcome. Children under 10 must be supervised by an adult.

Important Changes to Holds Beginning February

In light of the worsening budget situation and likely upcoming cuts to the regional delivery service, the C/W MARS Executive Committee voted to reduce the number of holds C/W MARS patrons can make from 20 to 10.

The new limit began on February 2. Old holds over the 10 limit will remain on your record until filled or deleted

Now our online catalog has incorporated some major features of LibraryThing. You will see suggestions for similar books when you search for books in our catalog. There is also a "tag cloud," which is a fancy way of looking at more subjects for topics that might interest you.

Clark Art Institute Pass Available

We are pleased to announce that the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts has provided us with a free pass to their permanent collection as well as special exhibitions for two adults through October 31, 2008. Children under 18 and students with ID are always free.

Two special exhibitions will be on view June 22 through October 19, 2008. Like Breath on Glass: Whistler, Inness, and the Art of Painting Softly features 40 paintings from leading American artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and Homer and Sargent from the Clark which will inaugurate the galleries and the opening of the new Stone Hill Center

Passes cannot be reserved and are available at the Main Desk.

Memorial Day Display

A Memorial Day display is scheduled from Friday, May 16 through Memorial Day in the Edwards Library. It was set up by Southampton Post 168 American Legion Veterans Memorial Museum curator Edward F. Borucki, a Pearl Harbor survivor and senior vice-commander of Post 168. For further information, call 413-527-0033.

Marty Klein Exhibit at Library

"A Sense of Place" -- Easthampton artist/photographer Marty Klein will exhibit photographs and scanographs at the library from April 12 through May 17. Scanographs are produced using a flatbed scanner to capture highly detailed images of natural objects. They are then edited and processed to produce striking and original archival prints.

An artist's reception will be held on April 19 from 11 am to 12 pm.

Database searching is sooo much easier! Just one click will bring you not only to all our databases, newspaper and magazine articles and downloadable e-books, you will be able to search the CWMARS card catalog, and bring up relevant website information as well. All at once!

Just click on the link "Databases/Articles" and put in your library card number. Type in what you want to research, then choose from the list of subjects... or all of them! Your results will be listed by topic and source and also individually. You can even email articles to your friends and colleagues. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
